Port Saint-Antoine
The archway is the original Porte Saint-Antoine, which was once the principal access to Menton from the west. Walk through the archway and you are in Rue Longue, part of the Roman road of Julia Augusta.

Bringing home the baguette!
Bringing home the baguette!
This is a photo taken four years ago of two brothers in Gorbio village. I love how the eldest boy carefully watches his young brother.

Dog on a table?
This Jack Russell looks as if he's standing on a table but in fact he is standing on a wall alongside this restaurant in Place du Cap, Menton. Dogs are part of life in France and if you go to a restaurant, then of course, your dog can go too. I approve!

J'approuve!

Fur!
Looks like there is a lot of fur walking around Menton this winter, and not just on the dog!
~

Coal Tits
Hoping the Coal tits will nest on my terrace this year. They did a few years ago but since then they visit to eat the sunflower seeds, but presumably have more comfortable accommodation elsewhere.

Teeth!
You see the oddest things for sale at the Broc Troc. Fancy a dried fish head? Look at all those teeth!

Broc Troc - Stallholder
This stallholder at yesterday's 'Flea Market' in Menton is ready for the day's visitors - but first, a quick look through the local newspaper.
~

Kafka's 'Youth'
'Youth is happy because it has the ability to see beauty. Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old.'
~ Franz Kafka

Goya and Philippe Loli
Yesterday, the population of Gorbio village was treated to a concert by the celebrated classical guitarist, Philippe Loli. He played the works of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco with a selection of five pieces on the theme of Goya's famous etchings which you see in the background.
This followed the traditional New Year speech by our wonderful mayor, Michel Isnard and after that champagne and the traditional galette du rois. It's wonderful to live in Gorbio!
