PhotoMenton: Olivier Remualdo and 'Sâdhus, the Holy Men of Hinduism'

Meet Olivier Remualdo, author/photographer who is, as you can see, a beautiful man inside and out - just look at those eyes.

He was at PhotoMenton during the second weekend to present his book 'Sâdhus, the Holy Men of Hinduism.' I'm so glad I bought a copy.

The photographs of these holy men, the Sâdhus, in this book are so extraordinary - and so is Olivier's writing as we read of his encounters with them. The book, by the way, is in French and in English.

There's so much to write about the Sâdhus and the time Olivier spent with them but really it's easier if you take a look at this page SADHUS which will give you all the information you need and where you can buy the book.

Olivier has had numerous exhibitions and won many awards including the prestigious Lucien Clergue Prize in 2011.

Voici Olivier Remualdo, auteur/photographe qui est, comme vous pouvez le voir, un bel homme à l'intérieur et à l'extérieur - il suffit de regarder ses yeux.

Il était à PhotoMenton au cours du deuxième week-end pour présenter son livre « , Sâdhus, Les Homme Saints de l'Hindouisme.' Je suis tellement contente d'en avoir acheté un exemplaire.

Dans ce livre, les photographies de ces saints hommes, les sadhus, sont absolument extraordinaires ainsi que les textes d'Olivier relatant ses rencontres avec eux. Le livre, en passant, est en français et en anglais.

Il y a tant de choses à écrire sur les sadhus et sur le temps passé par Olivier avec eux qu'il est vraiment plus facile si vous jetiez un oeil sur cette page SADHUS laquelle vous donnera toutes les informations dont vous avez besoin et l'endroit où vous pouvez acheter le livre.

Olivier a fait de nombreuses expositions et il  a remporté de nombreux prix, dont le prestigieux Prix Lucien Clergue en 2011.

PhotoMenton: - the Marathon and 'Endurance'

PhotoMenton finished yesterday with prize giving for the winners of the Marathon and of the Public Prize, which is where members of the public vote for the photographer's work they like best. I was honoured to be awarded 3rd place in the Prix du Public.  The winner was Claude Gargiola whose anamporhic art we saw two days ago. Bravo to Claude and all the winners and of course a big thankyou to the hardworking organisers of PhotoMenton who make all this possible.

The Marathon took place on the first Sunday of PhotoMenton and we are given three subjects which we have to photograph during the day. This year the subjects were 'Autour du Campanile' (the Basilica in the Old Town) 'Voyages' and 'Endurance.'

We start with an empty memory card in our cameras and no improvements are allowed to the photos. In other words you've got ti get it right first time! No cropping, no adding contrast, light, etc.

Normally there are three winners, first, second and third with fabulous prizes. For instance the first prize was an Olympus OM-D5 camera - a superb prize. I will show you the winners' photos when they are published.

This year the organisers of PhotoMenton decided to award a total of 8 awards and I was lucky enough to win a commendation for originality in the category 'Endurance'. Thank you to my friend Guillaume Jahan de Lestang for the loan of his legs (!) and to Emmanuelle Deleuse his partner who gave encouragement from the sidelines, both of them fabulous photographers who will be hopefully exhibiting for the first time at PhotoMenton next year.

PhotoMenton terminé hier avec le remise des prix pour les gagnants du Marathon et du Prix du public, qui est quand les membres du public vote pour le travail de la photographe qu'ils aiment le mieux. J'ai été honoré d'être la 3ème place récompense dans le Prix du Public. Le gagnant a été Claude Gargiola dont l'art anamporhic nous avons vu il ya deux jours. Bravo à Claude et à tous les gagnants et bien sûr un grand merci aux organisateurs qui font un énorme travail pour PhotoMenton et rendent tout cela possible.

Le Marathon a eu lieu le premier dimanche de PhotoMenton. On nous a donné trois thèmes que nous devions photographier pendant la journée . Cette année, les sujets étaient « Autour du Campanile" « Voyages » et « Endurance ».

Nous commençons avec une carte mémoire vide dans nos caméras et aucune amélioration n'est autorisée pour les photos. En d'autres termes il faut réussir du premier coup! Aucun recadrage, pas de contraste ajouté, lumière, etc.

Normalement, il y a trois gagnants ,les trois avec des prix fabuleux . Par exemple, le premier prix était un appareil photo Olympus OM- D5 - un prix exceptionnel. Je  vous montrerai  les photos des gagnants quand elles  sont publiées .

Cette année, les organisateurs de PhotoMenton avaient  décidé d'attribuer un total de 8 récompenses et j'ai eu la chance de gagner une mention élogieuse pour l'originalité dans la catégorie « Endurance ». Merci à mon ami Guillaume Jahan de Lestang pour le prêt de ses jambes ( ! ) et à Emmanuelle Deleuse sa partenaire qui l'encourageait à côté, deux d'entre les extraordinaires photographes qui je l'espère, exposeront pour la première fois à PhotoMenton l'année prochaine.

PhotoMenton: Anamorphic Art of Claude Ingargiola

Isn't this fascinating! It's called anamorphic art and is the work of photographer, Claude Ingargiola. As you walk past the images they move from right to left or vice versa. Everyone is fascinated including this group of boys.

N'est-ce pas fascinant! C'est ce qu'on appelle de l'Art anamorphique et c'est le travail du photographe, Claude Ingargiola. Quand vous passez devant les images elles se déplacent de droite à gauche ou vice versa. Tout le monde en est fasciné, y compris ce groupe de garçons.

PhotoMenton: Tim Aspert

There are around 3000 visitors to PhotoMenton each November and each one is given a voting slip on which they write the number of their preferred photographer. Not an easy decision with 110 photographers exhibiting. At the end of the 10 days the votes are counted and one proud photographer will win the 'Prix du Public.'

Meet Tim Aspert, who was the winner of the award in 2011 (PhotoMenton was cancelled in 2012 because the roof of the Palais de l'Europe fell in!) Take a look at Tim's website and his beautiful vibrant photography full of movement and emotion. His photographs, always in black and white, tell stories that make you think.

Chaque année au mois de novembre, il y a environ 3000 visiteurs à PhotoMenton et chacun d'eux reçoit un ticket de vote sur lequel il note le numéro correspondant à son photographe préféré. Ce n'est pas une décision facile avec 110 photographes exposants! A la fin des 10 jours de l'exposition, les votes sont comptés et un photographe fier de lui  gagnera le « Prix du Public ».

Voici Tim Aspert, qui était le lauréat du prix en 2011 ( PhotoMenton avait été annulé en 2012 parce que le toit du Palais de l'Europe s'était effondré!)  Jetez un oeil sur le site de Tim et ses belles et vibrantes oeuvres photographiques, pleines de mouvement et d'émotion.  Ses photographies, toujours en noir et blanc, racontent des histoires qui font réfléchir.

The 300th Birthday of Gorbio's Elm Tree at PHOTOMENTON:

PhotoMenton starts tomorrow! My theme: the 300th birthday celebrations of Gorbio's elm tree. (1713 - 2013)

Last summer, the village of Gorbio joyously celebrated the 300th birthday of our beautiful elm tree. In memory of that fabulous weekend and to bring it to life once again and share it with you, it is the theme of my exhibition at PHOTOMENTON. 

PhotoMenton presents 120 talented photographers, exhibiting every sort of photography imaginable.  Come along and admire them and at the same time drop by my exhibit and say 'Hello!'

L'été dernier, le village de Gorbio a joyeusement célébré le 300e anniversaire de notre bel orme. En souvenir de ce fabuleux week-end et pour le faire revivre encore et le  partager avec vous,  je l'ai choisi comme thème de mon exposition de photos à PHOTOMENTON.

The Cat's Thoughts

An old galvanized bowl, outside the Restaurant Beausejour in Gorbio, once contained a mass of pansies. 'Pensee' also means a 'thought' in French.  So now it contains a cat ... and his thoughts.
