Airole - the 'Cat Lady' Ondine

This must be the 'cat lady' of Airole. Her name is Ondine.  She was busy feeding half a dozen cats when we arrived. She looks a character - I love her style.

Ce doit être la « Dame des chats » d'Airole.  Elle s'appelle Ondine.  Elle était occupée à nourrir un demi-douzaine de chats quand nous sommes arrivés. Elle a l'allure d'une personne de caractère - j'adore son style.

Last Sunday, with good friends, I visited Airole in Italy for the first time.   Can't believe I've lived here all these years and never visited this beautiful hill village in Liguria. It's not far from Menton - you drive up the Roya valley from Ventimiglia and in a short time, voila! You are there. 

Tomorrow: Let's look around,  meet a few of the locals and have a delicious lunch.

Dimanche dernier, avec de bons amis, je me suis rendue à Airole en Italie pour la première fois. Je ne peux pas croire que j'ai vécu ici pendant toutes ces années sans jamais avoir visité ce beau village de montagne en Ligurie. Il n'est pas loin de Menton - on remonte la vallée de la Roya depuis Vintimille et peu de temps après, voila ! On y est.

Demain: nous visiterons le village, rencontrerons quelques-uns de ses habitants et prendrons un délicieux déjeuner.

Giant Insects

In the background, the Sablettes beach and in the foreground, work continues to remove rocks and soil to create a new underground car park. Like a lot of massive mechanical insects!

Cars used to park here but when it's finished, the area will be arranged as a paved promenade with trees. Lots of noise and dust but with the promise of good things to come.

Dans le fond, la plage des Sablettes et au premier plan, les travaux qui  se poursuivent pour enlever roches et terre afin de construire un nouveau parc de stationnement souterrain. Comme beaucoup d'énormes insectes mécaniques! 

Avant les véhicules se garaient ici mais quand ce sera terminé, la zone sera aménagée en promenade pavée,  avec des arbres. Beaucoup de bruit et de poussière mais avec la promesse de belles choses à venir.

An important day in a little girl's life! This is Paulina, daughter of Berengere and Mika who was baptised yesterday in the Church of Saint Barthelemy in Gorbio.

Baby run

Gorbio. Looks like baby has enjoyed her first 8 kilometre run! Only kidding, of course. Proud Daddy grabbed his baby just before he ran to the finish line.

Il semble que le bébé a apprécié sa première course de 8 km! Je plaisante, bien sûr. Ce fier papa a pris son enfant juste avant de franchir la ligne d'arrivée.

Last weekend was a weekend of sport in Gorbio village. This is the start of the 8 kilometre run up and down the hills.

Le dernier week-end était un week-end sportif au village de Gorbio. Ceci est le début du Trail de 8 km qui monte et descend les collines.
